Look out! Duck!

My interim office, such as it is, is in the living room, with a nice large window to the left of me. I have a fine view of my driveway and my next-door neighbor's backyard.

There's a constant stream of squirrels going back and forth, and less frequently but still common are rabbits. A few days ago I saw what I assume to be mating behavior in a pair of rabbits -- one would hop after the other, then the front one would turn around and they would hop in place for a while, then there was a bit of a mock tussle, then back to the follow-the-leader hopping. Rabbits and squirrels are all I've seen, other than the very occasional chipmunk.

But just now -- two minutes ago -- two mallards (male and femallard) walked across my driveway into my backyard. They are now standing in my backyard, contemplating something. Since there's no standing water, I can't think that they'd consider it a nesting place. Maybe they're just resting.

Update: Now it's just the female standing there; the male appears to have gone off somewhere.
