This reminds me. I don't know if you read Terri Windling's blog. She recently posted a series of pieces of art that show women spinning and doing other handwork, along with quotations and links about the folkloric aspects of the craft. I can dig up the url if you like.
Earlier she posted several series of pieces of art showing people reading, and those were utterly fascinating and wonderful. I wish there had been more spinning stuff, but it was still a good post.
