Help name the kittens?

Next week, two kittens are probably coming to live with me. (Certainly one, probably two.)

One is mostly black with lighter stripes, and the other is mostly white with Siamese-type markings. I don't have names for them yet.

I'm fond of stfnal- or fantasy-related names, especially names of cats in books (note my LJ handle). My two previous cats were Gandalf Greycat and Pyewacket.

I'm not terribly enamored of paired names because it leaves such a hole if one is no longer there. (Elise had Malt and Milton, and then Milton died of feline leukemia -- I took this to heart.)

Suggestions?

Cheshire? Pyanfar?

Well, you didn't mention the gender of said cats. But for a white cat, Galadriel is a possibility if it's female. Which would seem to make the black on Sauron...

There are two cats in Peter Beagle's book Tamsin. One is named Mister Cat. I can't remember if the ghost Persian cat has a name or not. However, I think "Tamsin" is a very nice name for a cat.

i am fond of naming cats "cat" in some other language. koshka and gaazha (i think i am spelling that correctly; [livejournal.com profile] kalikanzara would know for sure.)

Speaking from experience here, whatever you decide to call them now, the likelihood is that they will acquire different names.

We have a Pyanfar, and always meant to have a Hilfy Chanur - perhaps we will someday.

The best set of litter names we ever came up with (and the ones that stayed with the kittens when they left for new homes) were James Schmitz names - Telzey Amberdon, Trigger Argee, Danestar Gems and (the boy we still own) Heslet Quillan. There are some wonderful names in Cherryh, outside the Chanur books, particularly in the 'Foreigner' series.

There are also some great names in Elfquest - Skywise, Winnowill etc.
