Home safe

Boy, that was exciting. (For the out-of-towners: We're having freezing rain, and the roads are covered with ice.)

I'm glad I'd been warned by Thorin just how bad the roads were. I never got above 20 mph, even on the highway, and I might have been more cavalier about driving if I hadn't had the warning. Mostly I think I drove between 5 and 10 mph.

There was one stoplight where I worried that I wouldn't be able to stop in time to avoid the car in front of me, but that was the only real moment of unusual interest. It took five tries to get the car up the slope of the driveway, but there was no traffic, so I was able to keep trying until it worked.

As you know, Eric and I left before you did. The rain was freezing on the windshield when we started and on the roads by the time we were home. By the time I was putting down ice melter, there was a visible layer of ice on the sidewalk. I figured the people we met coming in as we left would warn you guys or I'd have called the meeting.

I knew global warming was going to suck, and that this was one of the relatively small, local ways it was going to suck -- I used to live in St. Louis. But it sure does suck.

Glad you made it home - R and T were a bit worried about you after their experience.
