okay, this is bizarre

LJ seems to have logged me out, and I can't find any place to log back in again. All I see at the top of the page is "Create account, or use OpenID" -- neither of which is relevant.

But if I go to the LJ update page, it'll let me log in for the purpose of posting. That doesn't help much, though -- I can't edit the post once it's up, because LJ doesn't seem to want to treat me as logged in, except at the posting page.

Grr. No tags, either, because I'm not really logged in. Grr.

It does that to me too! Are you still using the old version of the friends page? Anyway, I went to the FAQ and searched for "login", which brought me here: http://www.livejournal.com/login.bml

I am still using the old version of the friends page. Perhaps it was a failure of nerve, but I wasn't sure I'd be able to switch back if I tried the new one and didn't like it.

I still think it's weird that the login page is so very well hidden.

Yes! It is bizarre. They won't fix it because they want everyone to move to the new version.
