I hear a siren...

And it's not the first Wednesday of the month. It's clear and bright out, so I doubt it's a tornado warning.

I wonder if there's anyplace online I could go to check...

I saw an announcement on Twitter this morning. Unlike the last time, when it was a goof.

It's Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week. A NOAA weather radio would tell you it was a test.

Oh, that's useful. I have a free NOAA app on my Android phone, but it is sometimes a trifle slow to load; it seems to argue with the phone's GPS occasionally.

I just opened Google on my iPhone and asked the microphone "Why are sirens going off?"
The first Google hit said they were testing the sirens today in the Twin Cities.

Incidentally, when I asked Siri the same thing I got a bunch of search results about tornado sirens in Dallas and other random places around the country. Siri is a moron.

For some reason "Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week" strikes me as hilarious. It reminds me of my very favorite movie Parental Guidance warning: "Rated PG-13 for intense depiction of very bad weather."

The movie in question was "Twister."

There used to be two separate events, one for tornadoes and one for severe weather. I can see how it would be more efficient to combine them, but it does sound funny.

As someone who was traumatized as a child by the tornado in the classic movie of "The Wizard of Oz," I don't find the rating all that amusing.
