I just don't know what.

My doorknob has failed and I'm stuck in my bedroom. Pat is going over to Blaisdell Poly to get my house key from Lydy to attack the problem from the other side of the door. In the meantime, the cat (the proximate cause of all this) are going nuts, and I'd really like to have a chance to pee.

Luckily, as Pat pointed out, I have plenty to read.

Hopefully you're rescued, but if not, and for the future, can the door be jimmied? IE, can you slide something in past the latch, work into place at the latch, then pull backward to release the latch?

(I am certain there's a wiki article....but my google foo is failing me)

I was rescued, as you can see. I did try opening the door with a credit card, but I couldn't seem to get the right angle on it. The basic problem was lack of tools on the side of the door I was stuck on.

The most important tool turned out to be the telephone.

Go around to where? I did think about climbing out the window, but then I'd still have been locked out of my house, and without a coat. I didn't have a house key in my bedroom.
