There's a thunderstorm winding down, but it's going out with a bang. The lightning flashed, the thunder boomed, and the electricity went it -- all simultaneously. I just hope it wasn't my house taking the direct hit. Getting a power line probably means fewer fried devices (if more houses). But my UPS isn't beeping, which doesn't bode well.

In the meantime, my body can stop with the adrenaline thing right now. Stupid body.

ETA: The Excel Energy truck stopped in front of my driveway a few minutes ago, and I got an update from the guys as they were returning to their truck. Apparently the lightning strike took out a high-voltage line behind my house. The whole neighborhood is out. The good news is that they should have it fixed in a couple of hours. Much better than a couple of days.

Sorry to hear it. The thunder has been bad enough that the wee dog started digging under my desk in a panic, trying to get somewhere that felt even safer than all available options.

I got a strike like that, but it must have hit you not me because my power stayed on.

I jumped out of my skin and shrieked out loud. It felt like it was striking something RIGHT behind me.

Yipe! Though, yay for being fixed quickly, and hopefully the fact that it hit the high-voltage side of things rather than something more direct means your electronics are not too fried.

I was glad to see the update. And at least, while hideously sticky, it's not that hot.

We had the simultaneous lightning and thunderclap, and the lights flickered, but the power didn't go out.

Glad to hear you got off without losing electronics.

At my parents last house a neighbors tree ripped their electrical box right off the house. That turned into quite the electrical nightmare and a couple of weeks without power.
Glad nothing like that appears to have happened at your house. Here the lights never even flickered but the internets did sputter a bit. And we had lots of rolling thunder.
