I had a burst of productivity today. Things done:

1. Stripped the wallpaper from the (planned to be) office and packed all the dead wallpaper into garbage bags and hauled it to the garage.

2. Took the boxes that had been blocking my hallway and doorway into my room and put their contents in my combined linen closet/utility closet.

3. Put the contents of one of the bathroom stuff boxes into the medicine chest or, in some cases, the storage drawers. I still have another box to deal with. The problem is that the old house had several shelves to put stuff on and this one only has two little drawers.

4. Wiped the dust off the downstairs bookshelves that will eventually have paperbacks on them.

5. Hauled down the first half of the alphabet's worth of boxes of paperbacks -- 16, at a guess. There are also another six boxes or so of "miscellaneous paperbacks" -- those are the ones that accumulated after I ran out of shelf space, I guess. I'm alotting all five bookshelves to paperbacks instead of just four, so I hope they'll fit.

6. Unpacked and alphabetized the A's. The previous incarnation of the library had the books sorted by letter, but not by author. This time I'm going to do it right. Also unpacked the B's, but didn't sort them.

I've also completed my first week on the Atkins diet; tomorrow morning I get to weigh myself and see if the cockamamie diet actually works for me. I'm not sure if today's work was triggered by the energy burst that Atkins promises but I haven't noticed, or the fact that I was tired of watching TV.

The other inspiration is in the area of furniture. I've been looking for bedroom furniture, a display and storage piece for tchatchkes and silverware/tablecloths, and a thingie to put the television on top of. All the pieces I've liked have been way more expensive than I thought reasonable, and the ones I could afford didn't appeal to me sufficiently. But Costco this week (until next weekend) has a representative from some furniture company selling furniture, and the pieces look nice and the prices are quite reasonable. Pat and her sister Carol will be coming over tomorrow to look at the place and figure out if the maple wood I like will clash with the wood edging that's already there, and so on. And if it works, I expect to spend a chunk of money tomorrow.

Still looking for living room furniture, and I need to figure out what I want to do with the office now that the awful wallpaper is gone. But progress is being made. Someday I might even be ready to have a housewarming party.
