My office is now painted. It's a nice violet color for the base, with a feathering effect of very light violet over it. I'd be all ready to move my office stuff in, except that I'm contemplating holding off until the next step (see below).

The painter also finished priming the bedroom, which is going to have wallpaper put in. (The wallboard isn't suitable for painting without considerable work.)

The carpet guy came by today and I selected carpeting for the bedroom. Once the carpeting is in, I can help Pat put up the wallpaper. Then I can call HOM Furniture and tell them to deliver the bedroom furniture I bought back when there was snow on the ground.

I'm now trying to figure out if, once I have all the boxes of clothing put away in the bedroom, I'll have room to temporarily move all the other stuff that's currently in the dining room and hallway to the living room. This would also mean emptying the bookshelves that I only recently set up, which would be annoying. But if I do that, then I could have all the yucky brown carpeting in those areas removed and have the nice wooden floor underneath sanded and finished.

It would, of course, have been much simpler to do all this before I moved into the house. That's the one downside of having sold my old house so quickly; it didn't really give me time to do it before. Also, I hadn't quite realized how much I would detest the brown carpet until I had to live with it.

A couple of people have told me that it never really felt that I'd put all that much of my own stamp on my old house. That certainly won't be true when I'm done with this place!

Long-term plans involve replacing the (slightly different but still yucky) brown carpet in the living room with new carpet. Sanding and finishing isn't an option there because there's no wood underneath -- that part was an addition to the house. I also want to paint (well, have painted) the knotty wood paneling in the living room. I'd be tempted to redo the walls entirely into more normal walls, but I assume that would be prohibitive in cost.

Even longer-term plans involve finishing the large basement room, but that's a lower priority.

In the meantime, I'm sleeping in the living room until the carpet and wallpaper are put into the bedroom, because I had to drain the waterbed for the painter to do the priming. (By the way, if anyone needs a painter, I can recommend this guy wholeheartedly.)
