Thud goes another year
Oct. 12th, 2004 05:10 pmYesterday was my birthday. Not a particularly memorable number, but still, a birthday is a birthday. Thirteen people (mostly but not all on LJ) gathered at Gardens of Salonica for food and conversation. Thirteen, I think, is just about the maximum number where it's possible to talk with all the people at the table if you're sitting in the middle.
We had seven appetizers of various sorts (I only got one tentacle; should have ordered more octopus), and I had moussaka. I don't know what the carbohydrate count on it was, but it couldn't have been too bad. They accidentally gave me the veggie moussaka and delivered the meat one to the vegetarian end of the table, so I ended up with more than my share by the time the mistake was discovered. They did bring an extra veggie one to make up for the error.
lydy,
ddb and
pameladean gave me a copper-enameled cat pin, as well as a large gift bag mostly full of decorative tissue paper. And just as I was about to leave, someone asked if I had all my presents, and I said yes, and
kalmn said no, and handed me a bag with some miniature bars of high-quality chocolate.
It was a very pleasant evening; we probably could have kept talking longer, but the restaurant gave us the gentle hint of starting to put the chairs up on the tables, so we took off.
