I moved into this house over three years ago. Most things got unpacked quickly. However, I couldn't set up my office right away because the desk wouldn't fit into the office, and there were a bunch of miscellaneous boxes that I couldn't figure out what to do with.

Upshot is that I ended up with a pile of office-related boxes in one corner of the living room, and a larger pile of extremely miscellaneous boxes taking up most of another side of the living room.

Yesterday Pat came over and helped me tackle the pile of office-related boxes. Much of it ended up in the garbage, and some of it got put away, but the rest ended up in a bunch of piles that only I know what they mean. My task is to deal with those piles.

There's the to-do pile; that can go in the office where I might actually do what's needed.

There's the pile of stuff to go back to Minicon, should Minicon want it.

There's the pile of stuff that I know I want to keep, but I don't know where to put.

And so on.

Pat is coming by in an hour or so to deal with more boxes, and I have to have this stuff at least in progress by then.

Yes, I'm cat-vacuuming.

Bleah.

But the corner is empty, even if there are piles in the general area. Piles are a more hopeful sign than boxes.

Aren't they?

I have made most of the previous piles go away, one way or another. My office is looking rather cluttered, but that's a project for another day.

Pat came and we went through the boxes in the other side of the living room. Many things were thrown away. I have another pile of empty boxes in the kitchen that need to be broken down and taken to the garage. I have a large pile of things to give away.

And I have a new set of piles that I need to do things with.

I think that I will ignore the piles until tomorrow, and go watch the Vikings game on my TiVo.

It's such a relief to be making progress with this, even if the actual process is painful. I'm really trying to declutter my life, at least somewhat.
