Whee! I get another chance
Feb. 15th, 2008 04:35 pmA couple of years ago, Jeopardy! had online tryouts for the show. I was pretty sure I aced the online test, so I wasn't surprised when I received a notice offering me a chance at an in-town tryout. The tryout consisted of a written test and some time in front of the camera. I didn't realize how lucky I had been until the guy in charge said that they'd had 10,000 people pass the online test, and only 400 were selected for live tryouts. I had fun at the tryout, assumed I passed, but knew there were still many more people in their pool than actually get called up. My year of eligibility expired without my ever hearing from them again.
A few weeks ago, Jeopardy! had online tryouts again, and this time I wasn't anywhere near so sanguine about my results. There were a lot of popular culture questions that I had no clue about, and I missed a few questions because it took me a while to realize that if I let the time run out, whatever I'd typed in wouldn't be entered unless I hit the "Enter" key. And even if I did pass, I figured that my chances of being chosen randomly again weren't good.
But I just received an e-mail from the Jeopardy! people saying that I've been selected for a follow-up appointment, exclusively for those who passed the online test. So on March 10, I get to try my luck again, and maybe this time I'll actually make it onto the game.
