I have an MP3 that I'm trying to create a ringtone from part of. Among the many things I've tried is this website, which appeared to do exactly what I wanted. You upload a file, clip out the part you want, fiddle with it as necessary, and then generate the ringtone and either download the file or get it as e-mail.

That last part is the one that defeats me. When I tried to download it, I got a screen filled with binary garbage and nothing resembling an actual file. When I had the file sent to me, I received a file with base64 encoding. So I installed a base64 decoder, and it seemed to work perfectly, except that I got an error message saying that there was an illegal character in the base64 file. I tried converting the file at an online site, and got a similar message, so there probably really is something wrong with the file.

Any idea what could be wrong, or how to make the download work properly?

I'll be glad to send you the base64 e-mail if you want to play with it.

ETA: Success! [livejournal.com profile] webbob was able to decode the file from the base64 e-mail using StuffIt Expander.
