Alea jacta est
Jan. 15th, 2009 05:09 pmI just told Rick Charmoli that I want to go ahead with putting in the wood floor in the living room. I thought it'd be a matter of calling him and saying "go." But no -- it took 27 minutes on the phone with him. Turns out even after you agree to do it, there are still decisions -- what kind of vents do I want, do I want edging around the walls, if so, quarter-round or something else? Bleah. And some of that time was him explaining to me what a smart choice I'd made and what a good deal he was giving me. I can tell that the quoted price is going to have extra stuff tacked on, but that's par for the course. I don't think I've ever had a home improvement project that actually cost what the initial estimate was -- and there's always a good reason why.
By the way, I did investigate Bellawood and suchlike, and I'm happy having made the decision for plain wood after looking at the options.
Next challenge is getting all the stuff out of the living room. A goodly amount of what used to live there is still in the dining room from the previous clearing out when I had the carpet cleaned and the new furniture delivered. Convenient that I never got around to putting everything back, though part of the reason I kept delaying was for just this reason -- I knew the current carpet was temporary. Rick is coming on Monday to take out the carpeting and the underfloor, so I need to have things cleared by then. I just hope there's room for the couches in the dining room or hallway.
The most traumatic part of this? I'm going to be unable to watch TV for the interim. My TiFaux will collect stuff, but I can't figure out any way to make the TV accessible elsewhere. I really need to work on the "too much stuff" problem.
