I started watching nine new shows this season. That number is going to have to get cut down quickly, because even though I lost several shows from last year (the three new medical ones that didn't get renewed, plus Cold Case and Without a Trace are the ones I remember), I don't want to end up with more TV-watching time than I had last year. And I'd like to make some inroads on my Netflix queue.

I was ready to chuck Lone Star 20 minutes in -- the alleged good guy is the one who's two-timing his wife and leading a secret life. I left after those 20 minutes to go to the Minn-stf meeting, where I discovered it had been cancelled after two episodes. So I didn't even struggle through the rest of the first episode, just deleted both shows.

Tonight, after watching two episodes, I deleted Undercovers from my season pass list. I just don't think that jolly hijinks with a pair of married CIA operatives who also run a catering business and pass allegedly witty repartee with a third operative who used to go out with the female of the pair and now won't let the husband forget it is really my sort of thing. (If he'd gone out with the husband, the humor might actually work, but no.) Also, the alleged geek humor of the setup guy who does local research and suchlike and routinely would blow the real agents' cover if anyone noticed how incompetent he is isn't.

That leaves:

  • Terriers, which I haven't actually seen yet because I missed the first ep and had to torrent it -- three or four eps are waiting on the DVR. I'm dubious, though. I added it based on one rave review, so I'll give it a fair chance.

  • Nikita, which I also haven't seen any episodes of because two shows are already scheduled to record in that time slot, and I haven't torrented it yet.

  • The Event, whose message seems to be that the real humans are much nastier than the actual aliens and might be intended as a replacement for Lost. I've always liked Laura Innes and Blair Underwood as actors, but so far the plots only work if you don't think about them too much.

  • Body of Proof, which hasn't aired yet (October 22).

  • Blue Bloods, which deals with three generations of cops, and so far presents the message "torture is good and those who don't agree are just bleeding heart (female) liberals." [livejournal.com profile] barondave says Tom Selleck is a notorious conservative, so this one may just continue along the same lines, in which case it's for the chop.

  • Hawaii 5-0, which is a remake of the original with more of a buddy feel. I'm quite enjoying this one so far.

  • The Whole Truth, which is a criminal court procedural from both sides of the law. The first episode had exceedingly jerky cinematography, but was otherwise very well done, and had a killer final shot.

Oh, there's also Law & Order: LA, but that barely counts as a new show. I expect I'll like it, and I don't expect any real surprises.

I'll also be adding the Criminal Minds spinoff (Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior) when it premiers next year, even though I don't have high hopes for it.
