So where were those Yuletide icons again?
Dec. 21st, 2011 10:02 pmAs Tonstant Weaders of this LJ will remember, I missed the signup for Yuletide by a couple of hours, and was sad, but mostly very annoyed with myself. A couple of people pointed out that I could sign up for a pinch-hit. I subscribed, rather disconsolately, to the pinch-hit mailing list.
Last year, I'd subscribed to the web version of the pinch-hit list, more out of curiosity to see what sort of things appeared there than with any real intention of signing up for anything, since my own assignment went close to the wire. I was awed at the speed at which they were taken, which is why I wasn't at all hopeful about this year.
Nevertheless, I tried, and succeeded! Sometime last week, I managed to snag the final one of a batch. It wasn't a fandom that I normally would have offered for, which in fact made it more interesting in some ways. After a few days' immersion in the source material, I came up with something that I hope the recipient will be happy with, and even managed to fix a serious flaw that Pat WINOLJ the excellent beta pointed out.
And now it's uploaded, and while I'm still watching the pinch-hits whoosh by, it would have to be just the right combination of too tempting to pass up and my being the first one to grab it, both sounding less likely by the moment.
The Is It Yuletide Yet? clock is still giving the countdown to deadline (21 hours and counting!), so I can't give an exact theoretical number, but soon, in just a few days, there will be stories!
