Cat update 5: Morwen is home
Mar. 23rd, 2013 10:45 pmI visited her yesterday, and she appeared to be glad to see me. She wasn't eating on her own (they force-fed her some), but was drinking (and peeing).
I picked her up around 10:00 this morning. She's not on any special diet, just her regular food, but she's locked in the bathroom because she's supposed to be quiet, and not run around at all. The bathroom is pretty much the only place I can think of to ensure that. As soon as she was out of the cat carrier, she ate some of the dry food I had out for her, cleverly going for the side that had the fresh food in it that I had put in to tempt her.
Dr. McMenomy said she'd set a clinic record for size and location (how far along the intestine) of the blockage, and offered it to me. So I'm now the proud owner of a specimen tube with this wormlike object in it. Skinnier than I would have expected, actually; it's thinner than a pencil, about like a straw, and several inches long.
I've been going in and out of the bathroom and staying with her to keep her company. She purrs when I do so; it's very flattering. I'm about to give her a dose of antibiotic, after which she won't be so pleased with me.
Here's a shot from my iPhone of what she looks like with her shaved belly. She hasn't shown any tendency to lick at it, so she's been spared the indignity of an e-collar.
