Someone recently recommended London Hospital aka Casualty 1906, 1970, 1909 to me. The idea was to have a fast-paced emergency room drama using the med-tech of the time. I haven't watched it yet, but I plan on doing so soon.

In the process of finding out about this show, I came across the show Casualty, which the historical show is a spin-off from. I'd never heard of this show, but it's been running since 1987 or so, and unlike most British TV shows, the seasons run over 40 episodes. As a result, there are currently over 900 episodes available.

I'm a sucker for medical shows, so my question is whether this one is worth tracking down and watching. The first three seasons were released on DVD, but no others. My usual less-than-licit sites were totally unhelpful. On the other hand, much of the first season appears to be available via YouTube, and possibly more. So I can get at least a taster there.

I'd be interested in opinions from people who have watched the show, especially in the early years.
