Campbell's Soup came out with a line of low-carb soups a couple of months ago. There were five varieties, and I really, really liked two of them. The last couple of times I was at Cub Foods, they didn't have the soups. I asked the manager, and he said that with the low-carb craze fading, they just weren't carrying them anymore.

He recommended that I call Cambell's to see if there was another local distributor. I got an almost obscenely cheerful call center woman who told me that despite all the information on the Cambell's website about the Carb Select soups, they had discontinued the line entirely. No, they didn't have any in stock they could sell me. But if I gave them my name and address, they'd be happy to send me a cents-off coupon for my helpful comments.

I wouldn't be so cranky about this if the line of soups had been out for a year or more. I know that the low-carb fad is indeed less than it was. But the soups were only available for a couple of months, for heaven's sake! They didn't even give them time to find their market. And now they're gone.

Progresso has some low-carb soups, but they're either high-calorie (chicken enchilada) or very boring (chicken vegetable and beef vegetable). I find soup and a salad a very pleasant lunch, but I'm not enough of a cook to want to make my own low-carb soup.

Grump grump grump.
