If I'm trying to do this pattern:

http://www.knittingonthenet.com/stitches/quiltlattice.htm

and says K1, slip 5, does it really mean I'm supposed to knit one stitch and then slip the next five stitches over to the other needle without stitching anything? I can't think what else it would mean, especially since it talks about dealing with "the strand" two rows later.

But it looks rather unlikely, if you ask me.

Emma and I think yes, you slip all five stitches (I actually worked up a sample of something like this about thirty years ago, but I couldn't be sure I remembered without talking to Emma). Notice the pattern says "with yarn in front?" That's what creates the strand you're supposed to stick the needle under.

It's how you get the lattice effect. Keep following the instructions.
