Accessiblehouse auction: Hand-knit socks

I've posted an offer to make someone a pair of hand-knit socks at the accessiblehouse community.

Minimim bid is $20 (in general, the cost of the yarn is more than half that), and there are no bids so far.

Auction goes to 11 pm, Monday, April 20.

I have never had a pair of hand-knit socks, so I'm not sure what the advantages are. That said, what are plausible sock fabrics that don't involve wool?

The advantages? Well, they're generally more interesting-looking than standard socks, and I like the way they feel.

As for non-wool socks, that's a little tricky because most sock yarns have some wool in them, but someone posted a link to a couple of varieties on the knitting group recently, so here's one and here's another.
