I didn't win Robert Sawyer's money, but I did come home with a copy of his short story collection. I was one of the three contestants in the trivia game of "Win Robert Sawyer's Money," which had groanworthy punning category titles. I won the first round handily, then flopped in the second round. The third round was a quick ten questions, of which Rita (the remaining contestant) got two right and Rob got all ten. I would have got five out of the ten, so I was quite impressed with Rob's performance on that.
Quite an enjoyable time, and I don't think I did anything too embarrassing -- trivia contests make me hyper.
Starting back this morning, today I:
1. Had breakfast with James Nicoll, Bill Humphries, Cynthia Golzalves, and two others whose names I didn't catch.
2. Went to a program item on death, disability, and illness, which threatened to devolve into a discussion of the politics of disability, but was dragged back on topic.
3. Went to the Singularity panel that had Jo Walton, Robert Charles Wilson, and a couple of others, including one on the end whose name I don't recall but who seemed to have several favorite hobbyhorses he wanted to use the panel to ride.
4. Attended the John Scalzi kaffeeklatsche. Big fun.
5. Attended the Guy Gavriel Kay kaffeeklatsche. It was great to connect with Guy again, and the event was quite enjoyable.
6. Went to most of the panel on women's work and fantasy.
7. Took the metro two stops to get to Maharajah Buffet to meet a bunch of people from the Copyediting list who are also at the convention. I wish this restaurant were in Minneapolis. The conversation was wide-ranging and interesting, as were the people.
8. Hurried back to the convention center to get there just in time for "Win Robert Sawyer's Money" to start, and managed to be selected as one of the three contestants, out of twelve or so who tried.
And now I'm heading up to the parties, though I'm dubious of lasting all that long. And I would like to register a complaint about the scarcity of cider at this convention. I haven't seen any at any of the parties I've been to yet, though I did order some at the Bison Bistro that I went to last night.
