Pat arrived, and all went well. She came armed with three screwdrivers, but none was necessary -- the doorknob turned from the other side. She then attempted to repair the assembly, but it turned out that the screw (or screws) had sheared, which was the source of the problem. So I need to replace some or all of the doorknow assembly. It has nice ceramic knobs, so I hope those can be salvaged.

I also hope that the addition of the second litter box will mean a pee-free bed now that I can't enforce Rule 1) keep the cats out of the bedroom.

I'm glad to know how it came out. I had to hustle off to class shortly after depositing the key in my mailbox, so I couldn't keep tabs. I just assumed with Pat on the job that there would be no problem. Good luck with the cats.
