Some brilliant coder wrote this little perl program:

It works on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. All you have to do is put the most recent version of VLC media player in your applications folder (it's free). Then download the perl script, double-click the perl script icon, and your Terminal (or shell) program will open a window where you can select the channel.

I installed it and it works, though I couldn't get BBC 4 for some reason -- did get several other channels.
