Once is happenstance...

About four years ago, I took an online Jeopardy! test, and on the strength of that, was selected for an in-person audition. I was told that something like 100,000 people took the test, 10,000 passed, and of those who passed, 400 were randomly selected for live auditions. (This is entirely separate from when the Jeopardy! clue crew is in town and anyone can take their pretest and some of those get to have a further audition.) I considered myself extremely lucky, even though nothing came of it, just to get selected for an audition from the huge pool of people who passed the online test.

About two years ago, Jeopardy! had another online test, and I was selected for an in-person audition. (Again, I'm reasonably sure I did well, but still no luck getting on the show.)

A few weeks ago, I took this year's online test, and I just received notification that I was selected for an in-person audition. This time, unfortunately, it's in Chicago, so it involves actual time and expense, but I can combine it with a family trip.

Three tests, three auditions. I think there's something more than random chance going on here. I just hope the third time's the charm in terms of actually being selected to go on the show.
