A productive and delicious weekend

After going to the garage sales on Saturday, it was time to get cleaned up and dressed for the Romance Exchange.
pameladean has already written about trying to reconcile the various food requirements and dislikes of the members. I'm doing Atkins, but I was sure I could find stuff to eat that would be in keeping with the diet. Pamela said that she just threw up her hands in despair at trying to make the meal Atkins-friendly as well, but it turned out that the spanokopita and the mushroom pie were fine as long as I didn't eat the crust of either. And there were plenty of vegetables, and a wonderful vegetable tahini dip. The company was very fine as well, and there was much pleasant conversation about a number of topics, most of which I've promptly forgot.
Pamela lent me her copies of Wizard's Holiday and I Capture the Castle. I'm pretty sure I've read the latter one at some point, but if so, I've forgotten most of it.
When I got home, I changed into my grubby clothes and started scraping paste off the walls in the (someday-to-be) office. Two walls were mostly done already, but my goal was to have the remaining two done by the end of Sunday. I spent several hours at it on Saturday, and finished most of the first wall. Sunday, I got up bright and early (11 am) and finished the rest of the first wall and all of the second wall at around 5 pm.
I'd promised myself dinner at Outback if I finished, but around then I heard the tornado sirens go off, and the sky was that nice greenish color I've learned to be wary of. The wind increased, the rain pelted down, and sure enough there were tornadoes spotted. By 6 pm, though, it had settled down to being a regular thunderstorm and the tornado warning expired, so I headed out.
Outback isn't wonderful steak, but the restaurant is close, and the menu makes it easy to order so as to be Atkins-friendly. And if you add mushrooms and grilled onions to the steak, it's a very pleasant experience indeed.
I went grocery shopping afterward, and now have a refrigerator full of fresh meat and produce. It's going to be a challenge to cook and eat it all while it's still fresh. Asparagus at $1.28/pound is only a bargain if it gets eaten; ditto for cauliflower at $.99/head.
The sky continued its impressive lightning display all through this, and though it never got closer than a mile or two away by thunder count, I was glad of the maxim that a car is the safest place to be during a thunderstorm.
I still need to get the wallpaper off the walls in the bedroom, but once I do that, I think it'll be time to bring in professional help for the painting and wallpapering.
