Which presumably means either I am tired of life, or that there is not in cats all that life can afford.

I am tired of the black cat who wants to sit on top of the papers I need for my work. Even if she purrs.

I am tired of the brown cat who wants to sit on my lap and have me hold him while I'm trying to type -- especially when he hasn't done a sufficiently good job of cleaning up after using the litterbox. Even if he purrs.

I am tired of both cats trying to shred every single piece of paper in my office.

I am tired of the black cat sharpening her claws on the furniture. I am especially tired of her thinking that her doing so and my remonstrating with her is part of the nightly settling-down procedure.

What tedious things have your cats (or cat) done lately?

I am tired of my black cats sleeping on my laptop, printing test pages on my printer and sending illegible emails.

"Mrow."

That's the tedious thing my cat's been doing.

She -- thankfully not today, but some days -- talks incessantly, apparently wanting some sort of unspecified attention but being deeply unclear about what. This interacts badly with days when I am feeling overwhelmed with all sorts of people wanting more from me than I have time to do.

Today she just wants to sit on my lap while I work, and be in the way. (Actually, now that I'm editing this, she's just sitting on the back of the couch being a good kitty.)

I am very tired of cats who engage in competitive peeing.

I am very, very tired of my wonderful caramel cat who is trying to bully every other cat, even the two who are sick.

I am very, very, very tired of being jumped on at 4am by a series of very heavy kitties - and I am equally tired of the two who crawl into bed with me, and then sink their claws into me.

And I am very, very, very, very tired of the dog who barks far too much.

I'm tired of Meg insisting I come in the bedroom to play with her, only to become instantly bored with me and act as though she's humoring me when she bats at her string. And then start whining about it when I leave the room because I have better things to do than compete for her attention with whatever's out the window.

Oh, I amost forgot--I'm also tired of her bait-and-switch game of going to the door like she wants out, then running into the bedroom when I stand up. Yeah, that doesn't work on me but she has yet to learn it.

Perhaps everyone should install a cat door? Maybe the cats are tired of you, too. ;-)

She paces endlessly around my head - all night long - poking at me with her paw and pulling things off shelves. Wanting FOOOOOOD - Never mind she *has* food in her dish.

I find this a lot less irritating than I used to, however, knowing that she is dying. One fleeting thought to the alternative (her *not* being there to torture me) and I don't seem to mind so much any more.

I could have answered this much more colorfully a few years ago. Right now, Ari is being picky about his food, rejecting flavors he has gobbled days or even mere hours before, and yelling enormously that he is STARVING, STARVING when there is expensive wet food in his dish. He also walks around my desk and knocks things off it. Then again, it's so cluttered that I knock things off it too, so I don't feel I can be too annoyed.

Can you pre-empt the bedtime behavior by picking the cat up and putting her in bed with you, or is that too easy?

Soleil keeps trying to make Chiana go away, and also does not like taking her medicine. We could especially do without her deciding to attack Chi at 5 am. It is mostly Soleil's fault, but Chi is so traumatized that sometimes she starts it when she sees Soleil.

Mickey likes to reach out and grab any part of clothing he can reach as I walk by, usually hooking a claw or two into it. He's a very bad cat that way. He likes to knock things over, too. And even bite as he is petted into ecstasy. But he always goes in his box neatly and tidily and is not a whiner. And he uses his scratch pad for scratching. And he loves his cat tree and his canvas house with toys attached.

I'm fed up with the smallest cat pawing any and every surface in the house that will make a noise, especially when I'm trying to get to sleep or trying to sleep in. Storage boxes, the clanky metal drawer pull, the hamper...just enough noise to notice and know what he's doing.

He's a little devil-spawn!

I am tired of the constant badgering for food that the grey cat does (she's diabetic, and can't open-feed any more, which is A Tragedy). Including stomping all over us in bed at 3am.

I am tired of the Kitty of the Baskervilles howling the orange cat does 15 minutes after we go to bed. Every. Single. Night. For the past six years.

And the shredding, and the getting on counters, and having to find lockable cabinets to put the dry food in because the grey cat can open drawers and doors to anything... and yeah.

Well, it's dog not cat, but I am tired of the dog who has to bark many times at anyone who comes in the front door. And who insists she must sit on my lap at all times when I'm at the dining room table. The latter wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to cross my legs to keep her up.

I had to have my favorite cat put to sleep on Thursday - she was over 17 - she excelled at standing on top of the sorest spot on my leg, sitting on my newspaper, sticking her whiskers in my face when I was asleep, interposing herself between me and anything I was paying attention to, and purring and giving me that "Humans are soooo stupid" look. I miss her so much already.

For the two remaining cats - pretty much the same, except being stupid themeselves, unlike her, they don't give me the "Humans are sooooo stupid" look all that often. One of them is approaching 18. He's a purebred, the only one. When he was given to me I thought I'd probably be getting a bunch of vet bills. Instead he's the healthiest of them all. You just never know.

I wish they lived longer...
