I haz no Internet

First it slowed to a crawl, then disappeared altogether. Current theory is that the DSL router (modem) died. Qwest is sending me a replacement, but it probably won't arrive until Thursday at the earliest.

I am not a happy camper. I'll be even unhappier if the new router doesn't fix the problem.

I certainly hope that the new router fixes the problem. Heck, I even hope it gets there sooner than Thursday.

It's just that, given my past experience with Qwest tech support, I'm not sanguine about the likelihood of a correct diagnosis of the problem. Although I'd be overjoyed to be proven wrong...

The fact that throttling down Internet speed from "auto" to 10 meg half-duplex gave me access to e-mail (but not Web) gives me hope that it is indeed a router problem. That's exactly the way things behaved eight years ago when my previous router died.

And now, several hours later, I seem to have limited Web access. Dunno if things are actually better, but it would be nice. In any case, since they're not charging me for the new router -- apparently I'm a "legacy" customer -- there's no real downside other than the potential loss of time.
