Cat update 4: Morwen is out of surgery

Dr. McMenomy called to say Morwen is out of surgery and waking up. Apparently it was indeed her fiber-eating habits that did her in -- she had a whole felted chunk that had made it past the small intestine and cecum, and come to rest in the large intestine, whence it tried to take up permanent residence.

If all goes well, I'll be able to take her home Saturday morning.

I'm not sure what this bodes for the future. Cat-proofing my house of fiber in all its forms would be really, really hard. I wonder if regular doses of Petromalt might be helpful.

So glad she'll be fine.

Maybe you could at least significanty reduce temptation -- bag up or store away any particuilar favorites of hers when you aren't actually using them, get a cat-proof box to store in-use stuff, something like that.

I should think Petromalt would be worth a try. It is hair, after all.
