What is this weather up to
Mar. 12th, 2003 12:35 amI shouldn't complain, I suppose; today felt more like March in Minnesota than it has for a while. I think it was Sunday that it was -8 F, with a -25 wind chill factor. That's perfectly reasonable in January, but rather out of place in March.
Anyway, today was a nice civilized 30 degrees or so when I went cross-training with Pat at 7:30, and I think the high was 35 -- warm enough to make the snow start melting, anyway. And then in the afternoon, it started snowing as if it really meant it, though I'm sure it didn't.
Had lunch today at Midori's Floating World, the new Japanese restaurant by Lake and Minnehaha. It's in the little strip area where Thompson's pinball and video arcade used to be. This is my fourth time there in a couple of weeks; I think they recognize me. I celebrated having lost three pounds this week by being unvirtuous and having the sushi and tempura lunch. A mistake, since it was way too much food, but I ate it all nevertheless. I love eating out of bento boxes; all those little sections filled with mysterious things.
The sushi and tempura and rice, of course, and a little section with two slices of yellow-orange root of some sort, pickled. And in that same section, several small pieces of something purplish that was sharp-flavored and squished and crunched at the same time: pickled plum? And in the bottom right, seaweed salad and something shredded that tasted meaty and fishy and turned out to be dried bonito. Served with miso soup and salad, too.
The lunch specials are the best value there, but I want to try some of the noodle dishes, too.
It was the first time I can recall having fried food in a while. I think I have this mental exception -- if it's Japanese food, it's healthy. Have to be careful about that one.
Had a long and pleasant talk with Morgan Dawn this evening. She called while I was nuking dinner (frozen fettucine alfredo; quite a comedown after my lovely lunch), and I called her back later. We discussed television and LiveJournal (she's the old hand, and gave me some recommendations) and medical stuff.
I suspect it's going to be yet another insomnia night, but I should make the attempt to sleep. Or if not, there's still The Prize in the Game as lovely consolation.
