Cubs win! Cubs win!
Sep. 27th, 2003 11:38 pmToday the Cubs clinched the National League Central Division title.
The Cubs clinched their division spot by winning both games of a doubleheader after Friday's game was rained out. It's been two-and-a-half years since they won both games of a doubleheader (April 2001).
It's been five years since the Cubs were in the playoffs; they got the National League wildcard slot in 1998 by playing the season to a tie and winning a one-game playoff with the Giants. They then proceeded to lose three playoff games to the Braves, and that was that.
It's been 14 years since the Cubs won their division (1989).
It's been 58 years since they won the pennant (1945).
It's been almost a hundred years since they won the World Series (1908).
Maybe, just maybe, this year is the year?
