Coolness (literal, not metaphorical)
Jun. 4th, 2005 11:24 amThe last time it got warm enough for me to switch on the air conditioning, it didn't seem to be working all that well. The house got a bit cooler, but not down to the specified temperature. But then it got cold again and I let it go.
But then it got hot again a couple of days ago, and the air conditioner still wasn't cooling things off. Since I'd replaced it last August, it was under warranty, so I called Standard Heating and Air Conditioning. They said they could have someone out on Saturday between 9 and noon. Normally I'd be walking with Pat then, but we arranged to go out early this morning instead.
When I got home, a couple of minutes after nine, the van from Standard was sitting in my driveway. The guy looked the AC in my basement, then the AC unit outside, and then asked where my fusebox was. I showed him, and he flipped a switch. And amazingly, the AC turned itself on. I don't know how it got turned off in the first place, but I'm rather embarrassed. Well, at least I didn't have to pay a service call fee.
And the house is now cool. Life is good.
In other exciting news, I think I won't go to the Richfield farmer's market this week. They have lots of nice stuff, but my refrigerator is full of the groceries I bought on my last trip to Costco. Romaine is amazingly bulky when you buy two packages of six hearts each. (I'd say "heads," but they're really not head-shaped. Not unless you have a head like a turnip.)
