Hugo voting
Jul. 31st, 2006 02:24 pmPublic service announcement: Today is the last day for Hugo voting. Nominees here: http://www.laconiv.org/2006/hugos/nominees.htm; ballot here: http://www.laconiv.org/2006/hugos/ballot.htm
Well, there's nothing like leaving things to the last minute, but I did get my ballot in on time, thanks to having all the novellas, novelettes, and short stories available on the Web, not to mention three of the Hugo-nominated authors making their novels available as well. And thanks to
mrissa for loaning me her copy of Learning the World. I'm afraid I didn't bother with A Feast for Crows since I hadn't read any of the prequels and my understanding was that it didn't stand alone.
This was rather a down year for stories, I think (in mood, not in quality). I think I have somewhat of a bias for more cheerful stories, though I try not to let it overwhelm my priorities too much.
I didn't vote on most of the non-written-fiction categories, because I didn't feel qualified to do so, except for the Long Form Dramatic one. I wish more of the Campbell award nominees had stories available online; I voted for the two whose work I was familiar with, and left the rest blank -- which isn't entirely fair.
