But I have at least a dozen pairs of jeans, and not one of them fits properly. This includes the two size-12 pairs of jeans I got at a ridiculously cheap price at the post-Thanksgiving Lands' End sale. They were a perfect fit then, but now, two months later, they're decidedly too big. Not just in the waist, which a belt could deal with, but in the legs and the back.

The only pair that is even remotely close is the size 13 (size 13!) pair I found in my closet about six months ago, and kept more as a joke to myself than anything else, because I didn't think they'd ever fit. I don't even know where they came from -- I don't wear junior sizes, and haven't for a long time. They're a bit tight in the waist, and the distance from crotch to waistband (I bet there's a technical term for that) is a bit short, but they look good. Even if they're not as comfortable as the too-big ones from Lands' End.

I also have jeans ranging from size 20 down to size 14, all of which are (of course) too large. I'd get rid of them in an instant, except that my track record in keeping off weight is abysmal -- this is at least the second time I've worn those size-16 jeans on the way down from a larger size.

Anyone have any size-10 jeans they aren't wearing?

(I wish clothing size were a more standard thing. I bought a bunch of turtleneck tops at the Lands' End sale as well, and was startled to discover that I needed size M. Back home, I found that my old ones that were size XL fit pretty much the same way as the new size M ones. I know Land's End "relaxed" their sizes some time ago, but I hadn't realized it was so extreme. Which makes me wonder if the too-large jeans are really size 12 by any objective standard, or if it's just Lands' End's feel-good oversize sizing.)

Beth, that is amazing and very cool! And I do have sympathy for you. It sucks when clothes don't fit, one way or the other.

I do have some size 9 and 10 jeans I could give you. I'd like to trade them for some of the ones that are too big for you, if I can: I threw out or wore out some of my too-big clothes a while ago, and now I need them again. :(

(The technical term you're looking for is rise. Most juniors-sized clothes are going to have a shorter rise.)

Non-standardized clothing is frustrating in the extreme, no matter what size you are or what size you were a year ago. And closets should always produce clothes you can wear and feel good in. Sympathies.

Sizing is just crazy. I bought a pair of size 22 jeans at Target, not bothering to try them on because I've bought that brand before. They are too big. Not devastatingly too big -- I hate tight clothes -- but enough so that I got my size 20's out of the closet. But no, they are still at that infuriating stage where they look fine, they feel fine as long as I have a ramrod up my spine, but bend over? Ugh. If I wanted corsets I'd just get some. Anyway, I keep relearning that I don't know what size I am, I must try stuff on. It's very, well, trying.

I did look for 10's in the "forgot to take this bag to the Goodwill" corner, but there weren't any.

That's very cool (about dropping so many sizes). I really do understand the frustration of not having clothes that fit, for one reason or another.

I currently have way more clothing than any sane person should, but most is the wrong size or in need of cleaning/repair. Or still in boxes. So for all that I have, I have very little that is of use to me right now (or anyone else, for that matter; I haven't a clue where I would have stuff that'd fit you-- but I'll keep you in mind as I sort stuff).

Since losing is what you want to do, I'm very happy for you. You look good, in a different way than you looked good when you were heavier.

Sizes. Ugh. The clothes I have that fit me span at least three sizes in tops and at least two in bottoms. I've noticed the same thing in son P's T-shirts (about all he wears for tops is T-shirts with sports logos). He's now appreciating his small stature, as a boy's size XL often fits him, and it's cheaper than a man's M.

Sizes make no sense these days. The same sizes that used to be mediums are now extra large in some books, and I don't see any uniformity among manufacturers. The only style of slacks I actually like have drop-yoke waists, and though I've googled for hours I haven't found anyone making that style anymore. I am almost aggravated enough to do some sewing.

Nope. But get rid of all the ones too big. I never keep anything more then the next size up. I read this some where and it makes good sense.

How tall are you? I have lots of almost-unworn 10s I would be glad to swap for your 12s or 14s, but the styles that looked good on not-quite-5'3" me probably wouldn't do for a longer-legged person.
