I am humming, because I've been through my computer with a hard drive with no name.

To be more precise, I have this new 2 Tb USB hard drive that appears to have been installed properly via PnP, but isn't showing up as a named (or lettered) external drive in Windows Explorer. However, it shows up as a "My Passport" (the WD model) drive -- with no letter -- in the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" dialog box.

And if I open the Devices and Printers dialog box, there are two My Passport drives that both claim to be working properly. The drive letter isn't shown there, so I can't tell which is the problematical one in that screen.

Any idea how to get this hard drive back on track? Rebooting the computer didn't help, and I can't think of anything else to try.

No help here, I am afraid, just a question. AKICILJ? I'm usually pretty good at working these things out, but my Google-fu has deserted me too. I can see LJ at the end, but the rest...? Anyone Know If? As...? I Can? In LiveJournal? Nope, can't get any of the rest.

Blink. I am being answered by the very initials? Wow. I feel Kibo'd.

Seriously, thanks!

Now, there's a name from the past!

(I have "Akicif" as an online handle, because back in the late-80s/early-90s recession in the UK, I was involved in trying to set up a consultancy that would use the skill sets of various fannish folk who were between jobs: it never really took off - it had not occurred to me that in a recession most companies were already retrenching, and didn't have the pennies for that sort of blue-ish sky stuff - but I've still got the domain names....

Heh, yeah, it's a while ago now, isn't it?

Aha, I see. All becomes clear now. Ta!

I remember Usenet, yes. Source of all manner of info. Usually contradictory! Ah, happy days..

Thanks. I have seen this phrase around occasionally, so now I can look knowledgeable about its meaning, even if I lack the requested knowledge! (But I see further up in the comments that someone had it, so yay, clearly it is all true!)
