I'm sitting here in a Caribou Coffee, using their electricity and free wireless to post via my laptop. I'm doing that because my electricity went out in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, at the beginning of the thunderstorm, and hasn't come back on since. Looking out from the front of my house, I could see a bunch of dangling wires that were probably related to the problem.

This is a particular disaster since I work at home, and am nowhere near as effective working from my laptop, especially if I haven't had time to prepare.

Everything in my freezer is probably going to be a dead loss, since the floor of my kitchen had a spreading puddle this morning. The food will be usable if used right away, but it won't be refreezable. At least it won't go to waste, since I assume there'll be someone from Freecycle to take it. I don't want to think of how much water there'll be when I return, but I just couldn't stay home to mop it up in increments. And I don't really want to empty the ice cube container it's probably leaking from, since that's likely the only thing keeping the freezer cold, other than the frozen food itself.

Yesterday morning, the entire block was out. Yesterday evening, it appeared to be only my house and the one just south of mine. How special I feel. This morning, the customer service rep from Xcel said that 87 houses in Richfield were still without electricity, and it was scheduled to come back on sometime today.

I think I'll go out and have lunch, and then swing by the house and see if I have power again. The people at Caribou are nice, but it's not really fair to sit here all day.
