Cat on a plane pt 2

The transfer has been effected, and the whole thing went off with minimal drama. The plane was about 3/4 full, and I managed to score two seats to myself (plus cat). Random wailed a few times while on the plane, but mostly sat quietly. (Again, I give a certain amount of credit to catnip.)
And despite lousy phone connections,
txanne and I met up with each other without difficulty. She sent me a picture of Random in his new nest. He seems to be starting to settle in.
Query: Do cats have Eustachian tubes or something of the sort that could cause them pain when the airplane ascends and descends?
