I just don't know what.

My doorknob has failed and I'm stuck in my bedroom. Pat is going over to Blaisdell Poly to get my house key from Lydy to attack the problem from the other side of the door. In the meantime, the cat (the proximate cause of all this) are going nuts, and I'd really like to have a chance to pee.

Luckily, as Pat pointed out, I have plenty to read.

Out of durance vile

Pat arrived, and all went well. She came armed with three screwdrivers, but none was necessary -- the doorknob turned from the other side. She then attempted to repair the assembly, but it turned out that the screw (or screws) had sheared, which was the source of the problem. So I need to replace some or all of the doorknow assembly. It has nice ceramic knobs, so I hope those can be salvaged.

I also hope that the addition of the second litter box will mean a pee-free bed now that I can't enforce Rule 1) keep the cats out of the bedroom.
