Blindspot just got dropped from my DVR to-watch list.

I am finally, painfully, learning that I personally dislike the entire genre of shows with long-term conspiracy-based plots where anyone (and probably everyone) is a bad guy, or at least having a secondary set of motivations. That’s true (for me) even of shows that other people think are great and that get good reviews. In the past couple of years, I’ve watched at least a season of, and ultimately dropped, Quantico, How to Get Away with Murder, The Blacklist, and now Blindspot. And Timeless and Frequency are both on the bubble for now.

I feel a little guilty about giving up on “good” shows, but it’s not as if I need them to pass a test for school. If it’s not amusing me sufficiently, what’s the point?

On the other hand, I like long-arc shows, as long as they have a defined ending point. I’m sorry that Murder in the First was canceled after three seasons, and I’m looking forward to the new season of American Crime, even though that one is quite dark (two seasons so far, both with seriously depressing resolutions and ruined lives).

If you have Netflix, I've been quite enjoying both The OA and Travelers. They both have arc plots and they both involve a degree of mystery/conspiracy, but they aren't about everybody being a bad guy. Haven't finished the first season of either one yet, though, so I can't swear as to whether they pay off well.

Travelers! Travelers! Travelers!

It's got actual writing! And not many flashy special effects. Waay better than Timeless and without the Hollywood rent-a-costume of the week.

If you like police procedurals that are, err, a bit dark, Happy Valley is really great. (I confess I hadta use subtitles though.) I liked season 2 a wee bit more than season 1.

I came to the same conclusion regarding Blindspot last year. I just couldn't take yet another conspiracy-arc show. I will eventually finish with The Blacklist, I think, but I've stopped watching and will wait until I can watch it from Netflix or whatever. I'm staying with it (sort of) due to James Spader, but I don't care much about the show anymore. I still haven't watched the December finale episode of Timeless. That one is making me live with not only deep conspiracy arc but also with really silly time travel stuff. I mean, we're supposed to be worried about timeline changes, and yet no one cares that her sister disappeared after just the first episode. So, we are to assume that some events are more important than others? It's just intellectually shallow. And having a break has meant that I've stopped caring. We'll see. I have got hooked--much against my will--on This is Us. The storytelling conceit is fun and is being used wisely. At least so far! Now, if they introduce the fact that Jack is actually a deep cover agent investigating governmental abuses, then I'm out of there. *g*

I was going to drop Blindspot once I reached the end of the first season, but ended up sticking through the end of the second reason, which I kind of regret.

I don't regret dropping Quantico early in the second season.

On Netflix, I loved Stranger Things, and on HBO, really enjoyed Westworld, and rewatched the episodes while introducing the series to my wife. I think yet another rewatch might still be enjoyable, because I started rewatching the first episode yet again and noticed more things I had overlooked.
